Description
Rocio is a small genus of cichlid freshwater fishes from southern Mexico and northern Central America.
Rocio octofasciata, enjoy cover, especially driftwood, adult fish enjoy spending part of their time under it, and otherwise they are curious creatures that explore every corner of the aquarium. They are not particularly aggressive towards other fish species kept with them which are large enough not to be eaten, and normally ignore other cichlids.
Food is no problem; worms, cichlid pellets or whatever standard cichlid food is available, is greedily taken. The bottom of the tank is normally explored with the mouth in search of little pieces, of course not with the skillfulness of eartheaters. I wholeheartedly recommend a thin layer of fine sand as substrate, as a more normal behavior can be observed then.
